- कुरुक्षेत्र का वर्णन श्री मद भगवत गीता के पहले श्लोक में धर्मक्षेत्र कुरुक्षेत्र के रूप में किया गया है। यह एक महान ऐतिहासिक और धार्मिक महत्व का स्थान है जिसे वेदों और वैदिक संस्कृति के साथ जुड़े होने के कारण सभी देशों में श्रद्धा के साथ देखा जाता है।

- हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, कुरुक्षेत्र 48 कोस में फैला एक विशाल क्षेत्र है, जिसमें कई तीर्थ स्थान, मंदिर और पवित्र तालाब शामिल हैं, जिनके साथ पांडवों और कौरवों और महाभारत युद्ध से जुड़े कई घटनाओं / अनुष्ठानों का संबंध रहा हैं |

- हरियाणा में मौजूद हिसार, रोहतक, करनाल, अंबाला और गुड़गांव पंजाब का हिस्सा थे।
- 1948 में PEPSU के निर्माण के साथ महेंद्रगढ़ जिला तत्कालीन पंजाब के 19 जिलों में से एक बना, और हरियाणा प्रदेश में 6 वां जिला बना
