इतिहास
- वहा जाता है कि पहले रोहतासगढ़ (रोहतास का दुर्ग) बहलाने वाले रोहतक की स्थापना रोहतास नामक एक राजा द्वारा की गई थी। यहाँ 1140 में निर्मित दीनी मस्जिद है।
- 30 दिसंबर, 1803 को हस्ताक्षर किए सुरजीत अर्जुनगांव की संधि द्वारा, यमुना पश्चिम में बैठे सिंधिया की अन्य संपत्तियों के साथ रोहतक क्षेत्र ब्रिटिशों के पास गया और उत्तरी-पश्चिमी प्रांतों के प्रशासन में आया।
- रोहतक जिले में 1857 की क्रांति का आरम्भ मई के तीसरे सप्ताह में हुआ।रोहतक से 1857 की क्रांति का नेतृत्व हसन अली, अब्दुस्समंद, विरासत अली ने किया जबकि सांपला से क्रांति का नेतृत्व साबर खाँ ने किया।
- अक्टूबर, 1888 में तुर्राबाज खाँ की अध्यक्षता में कोंग्रेस की सावर्जनिक बैठक हुई थी। अप्रैल 1955 में हरियाणा की सीमा निर्धारण के लिए भारतीय सीमा आयोग का आगमन रोहतक जिले में हुआ था।
- 17 फ़रवरी, 1921 को महात्मा गांधी ने रोहतक के रामलीला मैदान में भाषण दिया और वैश्य हाई स्कूल, रोहतक की नींव रखी जो अब जाट स्कूल है।
- मार्च, 1929 में रोहतक जिले में हुई एक सभा की अध्यक्षता मोतीलाल नेहरु ने की थी
- ख़िलाफत आंदोलन के दौरान जेल में बंद कैदियों से मिलने के लिए महात्मा गांधी और अली बंधु रोहतक आए थे।

- रोहतक यहाँ से गुप्तकालीन मुद्राएँ, कुषाण शैली का द्वार स्तम्भ, यौधेपकालीन – सांचे, सिक्के ढालने के सांचे, कनिष्क, हुविष्का इत्यादि प्राप्त हुए हैं।
- अस्थल बोहर – यहाँ से बलराम की मूर्तियाँ प्राप्त हुई हैं। वोहर माजरा यहाँ से मुद्रा सांचे प्राप्त हुए है।
- खोखराकोट (रोहतक) खोकराकोट से इंडोग्रीक शासकों के सिक्के मिले हैं। खोकरा कोट टीले की खुदाई से बौद्ध मूर्तियों के अवशेष मिले हैं।
- बहमणवास (रोहतक) – यहाँ से महात्मा बुद्ध की मूर्तियाँ प्राप्त हुई है।
- दीनबंधु सर छोटूराम स्मारक संग्रहालय, गढ़ी सांपला दीनबंधु सर छोटूराम स्मारक रोहतक जिले के गढ़ी सांपला में स्थित है। इस स्मारक में सर छोटूराम की 64 फुट ऊंची प्रतिमा बनायी गई है, जिसका अनावरण प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी ने किया था।
- सर छोटूराम की यह प्रतिमा हरियाणा राज्य की सबसे ऊँची प्रतिमा है।
रोहतक जिले में स्थित प्रमुख शिक्षण संस्थान
- रोहतक जिले में काफ़ी शिक्षण संस्थान हैं, जिसकी वजह से रोहतक को हरियाणा का “Eductaion Hub” कहा जाता है।
- Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) – महर्षि दयानंद विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना वर्ष 1976 में रोहतक जिले में की गई। इस विश्वविद्यालय का नाम संत दयानंद सरस्वती के नाम पर रखा गया।
- Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences – पंडित बी. डी. शर्मा की स्थापना एक मेडिकल शिक्षण संस्थान के रूप में रोहतक जिले में वर्ष 1960 में की गई थी। इसे यूनिवर्सिटी का दर्जा वर्ष 2008 में बनाया गया।
- Baba Mastnath University, Asthal Bohar (BMU) बाबा मस्त नाथ – विश्वविद्यालय एक प्राइवेट यूनिवर्सिटी है जिसकी स्थापना 10 फरवरी, 2012 को की गई थी। यह दिल्ली-रोहतक नेशनल हाइवे पर स्थित है।
- Indian Institute of Management (IIM) – IIM रोहतक, की स्थापना वर्ष 2009-10 में रोहतक जिले में की गई। यह उत्तर भारत तथा NCR region का पहला IIM है। यह मुख्य रूप से मनेजमेंट के कोर्स उपलब्ध करता है।
- The State Institute of Film and Television (SIFTV) राज्य फ़िल्म व टेलीविजन संस्थान की स्थापना सिनेमा को बढ़ावा देने हेतु वर्ष 2011 में रोहतक जिले में की गई।
- इनके अलावा वैश कॉलेज ओफ़ इंजिनीरिंग, जाट कॉलेज भी रोहतक जिले के प्रमुख शिक्षण संस्थान हैं।
रोहतक जिले में स्थित प्रसिद्ध पर्यटक स्थल
- तिलयार झील – तिलयार झील रोहतक जिले में स्थित है और यह झील 132 एकड़ क्षेत्र में फैली हुई है। तिलयार झील में स्पार्कलिंग रेस्तरां और बार है।
- तिलयार झील के पास साहसिक खेल, एक मिनी चिड़ियाघर, खिलौना ट्रेन और झूले आदि बच्चों के मनोरंजन के लिए है।
- स्प्लैश वाटर पार्क – स्पलैश वाटर पार्क रोहतक का सबसे अच्छा जल पार्क है, जो दिल्ली – हिसार मार्ग पर लगभग 5 एकड़ जमीन पर स्थित है।
- महम की बावड़ी महम की बावड़ी को लोग “ज्ञानी चोर की बावड़ी” भी कहते – हैं। महम शहर रोहतक-हिसार मार्ग पर रोहतक शहर से 30 किमी दूर स्थित है। यहाँ पर एक “स्वर्ग का झरना” भी है, बावड़ी में लगे फारसी भाषा के एक अभिलेख के अनुसार इस स्वर्ग के झरने का निर्माण उस समय के मुगल राजा शाहजहां के सूबेदार सैदू कलाल ने 1658-59 ईसवीं में करवाया था।
- इसमें एक कुआं है, जिस तक पहुंचने के लिए 101 सीढ़ियां उतरनी पड़ती हैं, लेकिन फिलहाल इनमे से 32 सीढ़ीयां ही बची हैं, बाकी की हालत खस्ता हो चुकी है।
- अस्थल बोहर मठ अस्थल बोहर मठ, रोहतक-दिल्ली पर रोहतक शहर से 7 किमी पूर्व में स्थित है। अस्थल बोहर एक मठ है, जहां गुरू गोरखनाथ को मानने वाले रहते हैं और इनको मानने वाले लोगों में भगवान शिव के प्रति अटूट श्रद्धा होती है।
- गुरु गोरखनाथ को इस मठ का संस्थापक माना जाता है, किंतु इन्ही के शिष्य चौरंगीनाथ को इस मठ का वास्तविक संस्थापक माना जाता है। इस स्थान पर बाबा मस्तनाथ ने घोर तपस्या की और अस्थल बोहर मठ को एक नया जीवन दान दिया था।
- वर्तमान में अस्थल बोहर मठ के महंत बाबा बालकनाथ हैं।
- गऊ कर्ण का तालाब गऊ कर्ण तालाब रोहतक जिले में स्थित है। ऐसा माना जाता है, इस तालाब का नाम गऊ कर्ण महाराज के नाम पर रखा गया।
- चिल्ल आउट जोन “चिल्ल आउट जोन द एडवेंचर पार्क” एक पार्क है, जो आगंतुकों को अपने उबाऊ और व्यस्त कार्यक्रमों से खुद को फिर से खुशनुमा बनाने में मदद करता है।
- गुरुद्वारा लाखन माजरा यह रोहतक जिले के लाखन माजरा गाँव में स्थित है। गुरु तेग बहादुर दिल्ली शहादत देने जाने से पहले यहाँ पर 13 दिन रुके थे।
- गुरुद्वारा बंगला साहिब यह सिखों के 9 वें गुरु तेग बहादुर को समर्पित है।
- गुरुद्वारा मंजी साहिब यह गुरुद्वारा रोहतक जिले में स्थित है।
- महम का ऐतिहासिक चबूतरा महम से कुछ दूरी पर ही महम चौबीसी का ऐतिहासिक चबूतरा है, जो पूरे देशभर में प्रसिद्ध है। हाईवे से गुजरने वाले सभी पर्यटक इस चबूतरे को देखना नहीं भूलते। आराम करने के लिए चबूतरे के पास ही टाऊन पार्क विकसित किया जा चुका है।
- इसी चबूतरे के समीप नौरंग नामक पर्यटक स्थल है और यहाँ पर नौरंग रेस्टोरेंट है, जिस को फिर से चालू किया जा सकता है। .
रोहतक जिले की मस्जिद
- शीशे वाली मस्जिद यह मस्जिद रोहतक जिले में चमेली बाज़ार में स्थित है। इस मस्जिद का प्रवेश द्वारा संगमरमर से बनाया हुआ है।
- कलात्मक दृष्टि से यह मस्जिद अपने समय की उत्तम दर्जे की मस्जिद है। यह मस्जिद 8 फुट ऊँचे चबूतरे पर बनी है।
- दीनी मस्जिद यह मस्जिद रोहतक जिले में स्थित है। इस मस्जिद के अंदर . 1100 वर्ष पुराना महावीर मंदिर है।
- सम्राट औरंगज़ेब के शासनकाल में मुसलमानों ने इस मंदिर को मस्जिद का रूप दे दिया था। वर्ष 1947 के बाद इसे फिर से मंदिर का रूप दिया गया।
- लाल मस्जिद – रोहतक जिले में स्थित इस मस्जिद का निर्माण यहाँ के प्रसिद्ध व्यापारी हाजी अली ने करवाया था। इस मस्जिद का प्रवेश द्वारा तराशे हुए लाल पत्थरों से बना हुआ है।

रोहतक जिले के सम्बंधित प्रमुख व्यक्ति
- सर छोटू राम छोटू राम ‘किसानों की आवाज, किसानों के मसीहा, रहबर-ए आजम, दीनबंधु चौधरी छोटूराम जी आदि नाम से काफ़ी लोकप्रिय रहे हैं।
- छोटूराम का जन्म 24 नवम्बर, 1888 को रोहतक जिले के गढ़ी सांपला में हुआ था। इनका वास्तविक नाम रिछपाल था। छोटूराम जी ने आगरा विश्वविद्यालय से वकालत की पढ़ाई पूरी की थी।
- इन्होंने 1916 में जाट गजट समाचार पत्र निकाला जो उर्दू भाषा में था। भाकड़ा डेम के वास्तुकर भी सर छोटूराम को माना जाता है। इनकी प्रमुख उपलब्धियाँ निम्न हैं
- 1923 यूनियनिस्ट पार्टी का गठन किया
- 1924- जमींदारा लीग की स्थापना की
- 1937 छोटूराम को “सर” की उपाधि दी गई (1942 में भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन के दौरान यह उपाधि वापस लौटा दी थी)
- 1938- किसानों के अनाज की बिक्री हेतु “मार्केटिंग बोर्ड” का गठन किया।
- 1945 – 9 जनवरी, 1945 को सर छोटूराम की मृत्यु लाहौर में हुई थी।
- पंडित नेकिराम शर्मा पंडित नेकिराम शर्मा का जन्म 7 सितम्बर, 1887 को कलांग गाँव (तत्कालीन रोहतक) में हुआ था, अब यह गाँव भिवानी जिले में आता है। इन्होंने सन 1930 में “संदेश” नामक साप्ताहिक समाचार पत्र निकाला था।
- इन्हें “हरियाणा केसरी” के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। पंडित नेकिराम शर्मा की मृत्यु 8 जून, 1956 को हुई।
- भूपेन्द्र सिंह हुड्डा- ये हरियाणा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री रह चुके हैं। इनका जन्म 15 सितम्बर, 1947 को सांधी गाँव (रोहतक) में हुआ था।
- दीपेन्द्र हुड्डा ये भूपेन्द्र सिंह हुड्डा के सुपुत्र हैं और रोहतक से लोकसभा सदस्यहैं।
- श्री मनोहर लाल खट्टर ये वर्तमान में हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री हैं। इनका जन्म 5 मई, 1954 को निंदाना, महम (रोहतक) में हुआ था। इनका विधानसभा क्षेत्र करनाल जिले में है।
- चौधरी रणवीर सिंह हुड्डा इनका जन्म 26 नवंबर 1914 को सांघी गाँव, रोहतक में हुआ था। चौधरी रणबीर सिंह हुड्डा ने भारत की आज़ादी के समय काफ़ी बढ़-चढ़ का भाग लिया था।
- इन्होंने “हिंदी हरियाणा” नाम से पत्रिका का सम्पादन किया था। इनके पिता का नाम मातुराम था।
- ममता खरब ममता खरब का जन्म 26 जनवरी, 1982 को हरियाणा के – रोहतक जिले में हुआ था। ये अंतराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर भारतीय होकी टीम की कप्तान रह चुकी हैं।
- ममता खरब को भरतीय होकी टीम की “गोल्डन गर्ल” के रूप में जाना जाता है। अभी ये हरियाणा पुलिस विभाग में DSP के पद पर तैनात हैं। इन्हें भीम पुरुस्कार और अर्जुन पुरस्कार से भी नवाज़ा जा चुका है।
- साक्षी मलिक ये भारतीय कुश्ती की खिलाड़ी हैं। साक्षी मलिक का जन्म 3 सितम्बर, 1992 को मोखरा गाँव (रोहतक) में हुआ था ।
- इन्होंने 2016 ग्रीष्मकालीन ओलम्पिक जो कि ब्राजील के रियो डि जेनेरियो में करवाया गया था, उसमें कांस्य पदक जीता था। 2017 में इन्हें अर्जुन पुरुस्कार से नवाजा गया। 2018 गोल्ड कोस्ट में आयोजित कॉमन वेल्थ गेम्स में कांस्य पदक जीता था।
- रणदीप हुड्डा- ये एक प्रसिद्ध बॉलीवुड अभिनेता हैं जिनका जन्म 20 अगस्त,1976 को रोहतक जिले में हुआ था।
- अशोक कुमार गर्ग- ये एक भारतीय कुश्ती के खिलाड़ी रहे हैं जिनका जन्म 7 जुलाई 1969 को रोहतक जिले में हुआ था। इन्हें कई उपाधि से नवाजा जा चुका है।
- 1990- सितारा-ए-हिंद की उपाधि दी गई, हरियाणा सरकार ने खेल पुरुस्कार दिया।

रोहतक जिले के बारे में अन्य महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य
- महाभारत के नकुल दिग्विजय में रोहतक का वर्णन है। महाभारत के अनुसार पांडव योद्धा नकुल ने इस जिले की ओर बढ़ कर यह पाया कि वहां पर मतमयूरक नामक लोग बसे हुए थे। (यहां प्राचीन समय में राजा कार्तिकेय का राज हुआ करता था)।
