यह रसायन विज्ञान की वह शाखा है जिसके अन्तर्गत कार्बन यौगिकों का अध्ययन किया जाता है। कार्बनिक यौगिकों के बिना की संभावना नहीं है। जंतुओं और वनस्पतियों के निर्माण में कार्बनिक यौगिक ही प्रमुख हैं। कार्बनिक यौगिकों के कुछ अति प्रमुख उपयोग निम्न हैं:
1. हमारा भोजन: सभी भोज्य पदार्थ प्राय: कार्बनिक यौगिकों से निर्मित हैं जैसे-चावल, आटा, चीनी, प्रोटीन, विटामिन आदि सभी कार्बनिक पदार्थ हैं।
2. हमारे दैनिक उपयोग के पदार्थ: हमारे सूती कपड़े सेलुलोज के बने हैं। नायलोन, टेरीलीन, रेयॉन आदि के कपड़े सांश्लेषिक कार्बनिक यौगिकों से निर्मित हैं। पेन, स्याही, जूते आदि कार्बनिक यौगिक ही से बने हैं। साबुन, बेसलीन, क्रीम लकड़ी, कोयला, घरेलू गैस, मिट्टी का तेल आदि कार्बनिक यौगिक ही हैं।
3. औषधियाँ: निषचेतक पदार्थ क्लोरोफार्म, स्ट्रेप्टोमाइसिन, ऐस्पिरिन, पेनसिलिन आदि कार्बनिक यौगिक ही हैं। कीटाणुनाशक जैसे-डी.डी.टी., गेमेक्सीन, बी. एच.सी. आदि कार्बनिक यौगिक हैं।
4. यातायात: पेट्रोल, तेल, रबर, टायर आदि कार्बनिक पदार्थ हैं।
5. प्रसाधन तथा विलास सामग्री: क्रीम, पेन्ट, साबुन, तेल, फोटो फिल्म तथा प्लास्टिक के खिलौने आदि कार्बनिक यौगिक हैं।

हैं।
कार्बन तथा इसके यौगिक
कार्बन एक अधातु तत्व है, कार्बन परमाणु के चार संयोजी इलेक्ट्रॉनों के कारण यह आवश्यक है कि स्थायी संरचना की प्राप्ति हेतु या तो चार इलेक्ट्रॉन ग्रहण करे या चार इलेक्ट्रॉनों का त्याग करें। कार्बन सदैव अन्य तत्वों के साथ साझेदारी करके सहसंयोजक यौगिक बनाता है। कार्बन को Tetravalent भी कहते हैं। कार्बन में यह गुण पाया जाता है कि यह अपने यौगिकों में वलय या कई कड़ियां (Chains) बनाता है, कार्बन क इस गुण को Catenation कहते हैं। कार्बन एक अक्रिय तत्व है। अत: यह मुक्तावस्था एवं संयुक्तावस्था दोनों में पाया जाता है। संयुक्तावस्था में कार्बन विभिन्न रुप में पाये जाते हैं –
1. काबोंनेट के रुप में (संगमरमर एवं डोलोमाइट)
2. पेट्रोलियम एवं प्राकृतिक गैस।
3. कार्बन यौगिक जैसे प्रोटीन एवं वसा के रुप में।
4. कार्बन-डाईऑक्साइड (हवा में) के रुप में।
सभी जीवों में कार्बन उपस्थित रहता है।
कार्बन के अपररुप
प्रकृति में शुद्ध कार्बन दो रुपों में पाया जाता है- हीरा एवं ग्रेफाइट के रुप में। जब हीरे तथा ग्रेफाइट को वायु में अत्यधिक गर्म करते हैं तो यह पूर्ण रुप से जल जाता है और कार्बन-डाईऑक्साइड बनाता हैं। जब हीरे तथा ग्रेफाइट की समान मात्रा दहन की जाती है तब कार्बन-डाईऑक्साइड की बराबर मात्रा उत्पन्न होती है तथा कोई अवशेष नहीं बचता। यद्यपि हीरा तथा ग्रेफाइट रासायनिक रुप से एक समान हैं, परन्तु उनके भौतिक गुण बहुत ही भिन्न हैं। ऐसे गुणों को प्रदर्शित करने वाले तत्वों को अपरुप (Allotrop) कहते हैं।
1. हीरा Diamond: हीरा एक पारदर्शक पदार्थ है। हीरे के उच्च अपवर्तन गुणांक के कारण यह चमकीले एवं कीमती आभूषण तथा जेवरों को बनाने के काम में लाया जाता है। सबसे अधिक कठोर ज्ञात पदार्थ होने के कारण केवल हीरा ही एक ऐसा पदार्थ है, जो अन्य पदार्थों को पीसने तथा काटने के लिए प्रयुक्त होता है। इसका उपयोग पृथ्वी की चट्टानी परतों को वेधित करने हेतु भी किया जाता है।
ग्रेफाइट Graphite: ग्रेफाइट विद्युत का सुचालक होने के कारण शुष्क सेल तथा विद्युत आक में इलेक्ट्रोडों के रुप में उपयोग होता है। इसका उपयोग पेन्सिल तथा काले रंग का पेन्ट बनाने में भी होता है।
C-12 समस्थानिक की अर्ध-आयु 5770 वर्ष होती है, जिसका प्रयोग रेडियोएक्टिव डेटिंग में किया जाता है, जो पुरातत्व वस्तुओं की आयु जानने के प्रयोग में आता है।
कार्बन के उपयोग
1. हीरा (Diamond): Gemstone, काटने में, पीसने में, पॉलिश में उद्योग में, Drilling में।
2. ग्रेफाइट (Graphite): स्टील उद्योग, पेन्सिल, उच्च ताप क्रुसिबल, तत्वों के विद्युत अपघटन में प्रयोग किए जाने वाले विद्युत अपघट्य के रुप में।
3. कोक (Coke): स्टील उद्योग में ईधन के रूप में
4. कार्बन ब्लैक (Carbon Black): रबर उद्योग, स्याही में, पेंट तथा प्लास्टिक को निर्माण में।
5. सक्रिय कार्बन: चीनी उद्योग में रंग हटाने में, रसायनों के शोधन में, उत्प्रेरक ईधन, अपचायक के रूप में।
कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड Carbon dioxide
कार्बन डाईऑक्साइड एक रंगहीन, गंधहीन गैस है। वायुमण्डल में कार्बन डाईऑक्साइड आयतनानुसार 0.03 प्रतिशत पायी जाती है। इसका जलीय विलयन अम्लीय होता है। वायुमण्डलीय दाब पर यह –78°C ताप पर ठोस अवस्था में परिवर्तित हो जाती है, जिसे शुष्क बर्फ कहते है। शुष्क बर्फ का प्रयोग रेफ्रिजरेशन में किया जाता है। कार्बन डाईऑक्साइड उच्च दाब पर शीतल पेय पदार्थों के साथ बोतलों में भर दी जाती है। बोतल को खोलने पर यह झाग के रुप में निकलती है।
कार्बनिक यौगिक Organic Compounds
कार्बन के परमाणु काफी बड़ी संख्या में एक-दूसरे के साथ सहसंयोजी आबंध द्वारा जुड़े रहते हैं। यही कारण है कि कार्बन के यौगिकों की बहुत संख्या होती है। मीथेन (CH4), एथेन (C2H6), प्रोपेन (C3H8), ब्यूटेन (C4H10, ), पेन्टेन (C5H12), इथाइलीन (C2H4), एसीटिक अम्ल (CH3COOH) एथिल एल्कोहल (C2H5OH) इत्यादि कार्बन के यौगिक हैं और ये बहुत से रासायनिक उद्योगों में काम आते हैं। इसके अलावा दवाईयां, फाइबर, सिन्थेटिक कपास, प्लास्टिक, रबर, चमड़ा इत्यादि भी कार्बनिक यौगिक से बनाये जाते हैं।
मीथेन Methane
यह एक रंगहीन, गंधहीन, व स्वादहीन गैस है। यह अधिकतर दलदली क्षेत्रों में पायी जाती है, जिसके कारण इसे मार्स गैस भी कहते हैं। यह गैस जल में अल्प विलेय है परन्तु एल्कोहल में अधिक विलेय है। इसका उपयोग मेथिल ऐल्कोहल, फार्मल्डिहाइल व क्लोरोफार्म आदि के बनाने में किया जाता है। इसके अतिरिक्त काले रंग, मोटर टायर, छापे खाने की स्याही, पेंट, कार्बन छड़ें आदि बनाने में भी इसका प्रयोग किया जाता है। इसके सूंघने पर व्यक्ति मूर्छित हो जाता है। यह ईधन, एल्कोहल आदि में विलेय है। एथिलीन, सल्फर मोनोक्लोराइड से क्रिया करके एक विषैला द्रव डाईक्लोरो एथिल डाइसल्फाइड, जिसे मस्टर्ड गैस भी कहते हैं, बनाती है। एथिलीन बहुलकीकरण की क्रिया द्वारा प्लास्टिक बनाती है। इस गैस का उपयोग मुख्य रुप से कच्चे फलों को पकाने में किया जाता है।
ऐसेटिलीन Acetylene
ऐसेटिलीन की खोज अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक विल्सन ने की थी। इस गैस का उपयोग मुख्यत: कपूर बनाने, प्रकाश उत्पन्न करने, कृत्रिम रबर बनाने, वेलिंडग करने में, रेशमी कपड़े, एसीटिक अम्ल आदि बनाने में किया जाता है।
ईथर Ether
ईथर रंगहीन व सुगन्धित द्रव है। यह अत्यधिक वाष्पशील होता है। यह एल्कोहल में विलेय होता है। इसका प्रयोग निश्चेतक के रुप में, वसा, तेल आदि के विलायक के रुप में, ठण्डक पैदा करने के लिये, एल्कोहल बनाने आदि में किया जाता है। व्यावसायिक रुप में ईथर, एल्कोहल को सान्द्र सल्फ्यूरिक अम्ल के साथ गर्म करके बनाया जाता है।
ऐथिल एल्कोहल Ethyl Alcohol
ऐथिल एल्कोहल एक रंगहीन द्रव है तथा अत्यधिक ज्वलनशील होता है। इसे पीने से शरीर में उत्तेजना उत्पन्न होती है, इसलिये इसे मादक द्रव के रुप में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। ऐथिल एल्कोहल फलों व स्टार्चयुक्त अनाजों जैसे- जौ आदि में पाया जाता है। औद्योगिक विधि में इसे किण्वन (Fermentation) विधि से बनाया जाता है। इसका प्रयोग शर्करा, सिरका व शराब बनाने में, मोटर व हवाई जहाज में ईंधन के रुप में, पारदर्शक साबुन बनाने में, इत्र व अन्य सुगन्धित पदार्थ बनाने में तथा विलायक के रुप में किया जाता है।
मेथिल एल्कोहल Methyl Alcohol
मेथिल एल्कोहल को सबसे पहले लकड़ी के भंजक आसवन के द्वारा बनाया गया था। यह लौंग के तेल व कई फलों में पाया जाता है। मेथिल एल्कोहल एक विषैला द्रव है व इसकी गन्ध शराब की तरह होती है। इसे पी लेने से व्यक्ति अंधा हो जाता है। आजकल देश के विभिन्न भागों में शराब पीने वालों की अधिकांश मृत्यु मेथिल एल्कोहल के ही कारण रही है। इसका उपयोग पेट्रोल के साथ मिलाकर ईंधन के रुप में, कृत्रिम रंग बनाने में, तथा वार्निश आदि के विलायक के रुप में किया जाता है।
ग्लूकोज Glucose
इसे अंगूर की शक्कर भी कहते हैं। यह अंगूरों, मीठे फलों व मूत्र में पाया जाता है। मधुमेह के रोगियों के मूत्र में इसकी मात्रा अधिक पायी जाती है। यह चाँदी, के लवण, अमोनियम सिल्वर नाइट्रेट के साथ मिलकर चाँदी की तरह सफेद पर्त बनाता है, जिसे चाँदी का दर्पण कहते है। इसका प्रयोग शराब बनाने में फलों को सुरक्षित रखने में, औषधि के रुप में तथा शक्तिवर्धक आदि के रुप में किया जाता है।

यह तेल के समान द्रव है, जो कि अत्यन्त विषैला होता है। एल्कोहल, ईथर आदि में यह विलेय परन्तु जल में अविलेय होता है। इसका उपयोग रबर बनाने में व विभिन्न प्रकार की औषधियों व रंगों आदि के बनाने में किया जाता है।
समावयवता
कार्बन के परमाणु इतनी सुगमता से बंध बनाते हैं कि उनसे एक ही आण्विक सूत्र वाले प्राय: दो या दो-से-अधिक भिन्न यौगिक बनते हैं। ऐसे यौगिक को समावयवी कहते हैं तथा इस घटना को समावयवता कहते हैं।
बहुलक Polymer
बहुलक उच्च अणुभार वाले, बड़े आकर के अणु हैं, जिनका हमारी दिनचर्या में बहुत महत्त्व है। ये कई छोटे-छोटे अणुओं से मिलकर बनते है। रचनात्मक रुप से कई आण्विक श्रृंखलाएं अथवा Cross-Linked Network के रूप में व्यवस्थित रहते हैं। इसके बीच के बन्ध बहुलक बनाने में प्रयुक्त हुई अभिक्रिया के प्रकार पर निर्भर करते हैं।
बहुलकीकरण Polymerization
जब एक ही यौगिक के दो अथवा दो-से-अधिक अणु आपस में संयोग करके एक बड़ा अणु बनाते हैं, उसे बहुलक कहते हैं तथा यह क्रिया योगशील बहुलकीकरण कहलाती है। यदि यह अभिक्रिया संघनन में हो तो संघनन बहुलकीकरण होता है।
विस्फोटक Explosive
विस्फोटक ऐसे पदार्थ होते हैं, जिसके दहन से अत्यधिक ऊष्मा व तीव्र ध्वनि उत्पन्न होती है। उसे विस्फोटक कहते हैं। कुछ विस्फोटक निम्न हैं-
1. टी.एन.टी. (T.N.T): T.N.T हल्का पीला क्रिस्टलीय ठोस पदार्थ है। यह टालूईन के साथ सान्द्र सल्फ्यूरिक अम्ल, सान्द्र नाइट्रिक अम्ल की क्रिया से बनाया जाता है। इसका सबसे अधिक उपयोग विस्फोटक के रुप में किया जाता है। इसका पूरा नाम ट्राईनाइट्रो-टालूईन (T.N.T) है।
2. डायनामाइट (Dynamite): 1865 में अल्फ्रेड नोबेल ने डायनामाइट का आविष्कार किया था। आधुनिक डाइनामाइट में नाइट्रोग्सिरीन की जगह सोडियम नाइट्रेट का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
3. आर.डी.एक्स. (R.D.X.): इसका पूरा नाम रिसर्च डेवलपमेंट एक्सप्लोजिव है। इस विस्फोटक को सं.रा. अमेरिका में साइक्लोनाइट, जर्मनी में हेक्सोजन तथा इटली में टी-4 के नाम से जाना जाता है। इसमें प्लास्टिक पदार्थ, जैसे – पॉलिब्यूटाइन, एक्रिलिक अम्ल, या पॉलियूरेथेन को मिला कर प्लास्टिक बान्डेड एक्सप्लोसिव बनाया जाता है।
4. ट्राइनाइट्रो ग्लिसरीन (T.N.G): ट्राई नाइट्रो ग्लिसंरीन एक रंगहीन तैलीय द्रव है। यह डाइनामाइट बनाने के काम आता है।
5. टाई-नाइट्रो फिनॉल (T.N.P): को पिकरिक अम्ल भी कहा जाता है। यह फिनाल व सान्द्र नाइट्रिक अम्ल की अभिक्रिया द्वारा बनाया जाता है। यह हल्का पीला, क्रिस्टलीय ठोस होता है, जो अत्यधिक विस्फोटक होता है।
औषधियां Drugs
वे रोगों के इलाज में काम आती है। प्रारम्भ में पेड़-पौधों, जीव-जन्तुओं से प्राप्त की जाती थीं, लेकिन जैसे-जैसे रसायन विज्ञान का विस्तार होता गया, नये-नये तत्वों की खोज हुई तथा उनसे नई-नई औषधियां कृत्रिम विधि से तैयार की गई। रसायन विधि में अधिकतर औषधियां कार्बानिक पदार्थों से तैयार की जाती है। एसीटिक एनहाइट्राइड से एस्प्रिन, यूरिया से वेरानल, बेन्जोइक अम्ल से सैकरीन व क्लोरमिन, फिनाल से फेनेसिटिन, ऐस्पिरिन, सैलोल व सैलिसिलिक अम्ल आदि दवायें बनायी जाती हैं। कुछ प्रमुख औषधियों का वर्गीकरण निम्न है-
1. एन्टीबायोटिक्स (Antibioties): एन्टीबायोटिक्स औषधियां अत्यन्त सूक्ष्म जीवाणुओं मोल्डस, फन्जाई आदि से बनायी जाती है। ये औषधियां अन्य दूसरे प्रकार के जीवाणुओं को मारती है व उनकी वृद्धि को रोकती हैं। अलेक्जेंडर फ्लेमिंग ने 1929 में पहली एन्टीबायोटिक औषधि, पेन्सिलीन का आविष्कार किया जिसके द्वारा विशेष प्रकार के बैक्टीरिया को नष्ट किया जाता सकता था। पेनिसिलीन, टेट्रासाइक्लिन, एन्टीबायोटिक औषधियां हैं।
2. पूर्तिरोधी (Antiseptics): ये औषधियां सूक्ष्म जीवाणुओं को मारने व उनकी वृद्धि रोकने में सहायक होती है। ये रक्त को दूषित होने से रोकने व घाव आदि भरने में विशेष रुप से प्रयुक्त की जाती है। सिरके तथा सिडार तेल का प्रयोग घावों आदि के ठीक करने में प्राचीन काल से होता आ रहा है। आधुनिक एन्टीसेप्टिक औषधियां तैयार करने में सेमिलवीस, लिस्टर व कोच के नाम उल्लेखनीय है। आयोडीन, एथिल एल्कोहल, फिनॉल, हाइड्रोजन पराक्साइड आदि रोगाणु व कीटाणुनाशक के रुप में प्रयोग किये जाते हैं।
3. एन्टीपायरेटिक्स (Antipyretics): एन्टीपायरेटिक्स का प्रयोग शरीर दर्द व बुखार उतारने में किया जाता है। एस्प्रिन, क्रोसिन, फिनेसिटिन, पायरोमिडीन आदि प्रमुख एन्टीपायरेटिक्स औषधियां हैं।
4. निश्चेतक (Anaesthetic): संवेदना को कम करने के लिये प्रयुक्त किये जाते हैं। निश्चेतक का प्रयोग सबसे पहले विलियम मोर्टन ने 1846 में डाई एथिल ईथर के रुप में किया। इसको पश्चात् 1847 में जेम्स सेम्पसन ने क्लोरोफार्म को निश्चेतक को रुप में प्रयोग किया। क्लोरोफार्म, पेन्टोथल सोडियम, हेलोथेन, ईथरनाइट्रस आक्साइड, ट्राईक्लोरो एथिलीन, डायजीपाम आदि निश्चेतक के रुप में प्रयोग किये जाते हैं।
5. सल्फा ड्रग्स ( Sulpha Drugs): सल्फा औषधियों में मुख्य रुप में सल्फर व नाइट्रोजन पायी जाती है। सबसे पहली सल्फा औषधि सल्फानिलमाइड, 1908 में बनायी गई थी। ये दवायें कुछ जीवाणुओं के प्रति अत्यन्त प्रभावी होती है। कुछ सल्फा औषधियों का प्रयोग पशुओं के लिये भी किया जाता है|
ईंधन Fuel
वे पदार्थ, जिन्हें जलाकर ऊष्मा उत्पन्न की जाती है, उन पदार्थों को ईंधन कहते हैं। ईधनों का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण वर्गीकरण उनकी भौतिक अवस्था के आधार पर होता है। भौतिक अवस्था के आधार पर तीन प्रकार के ईधन होते हैं- ठोस ईंधन, द्रव, ईधन तथा गैसीय ईधन। इनके उदाहरण निम्नलिखित हैं-
1. ठोस ईधन Solid Fuel: लकड़ी, कोयला, कोक, चारकोल (काष्ठ कोयला या लकड़ी का कोयला) तथा पैराफिन वैक्स (मोम), ठोस ईंधन हैं।
2. द्रव ईधन या तरल ईधन Liquid Fuel: कैरोसिन (मिट्टी का तेल), पेट्रोल, डीजल, ऐल्कोहल तथा द्रवित हाइड्रोजन, द्रव ईंधन हैं या तरल ईंधन हैं।
3. गैसीय ईंधन Gaseous Fuel: प्राकृतिक गैस, तरल पेट्रोलियम गैस, कोल गैस, जल गैस, बायो गैस (गोबर गैस), ऐस्टिलीन तथा हाइड्रोजन गैस, गैसीय ईंधन हैं।
द्रवित पैट्रोलियम गैस Liquid Petroleum Gas
घरों में ईंधन के रुप में प्रयुक्त की जाने वाली द्रवित प्राकृतिक गैस को एल.पी.जी. कहते हैं। यह ब्यूटेन तथा प्रोपेन गैसों का मिश्रण होती है, जिसे उच्च दाब पर द्रवित कर सिलेण्डरों में भर लेते हैं। ईथाइल मरकपटन गैस में महक के लिए मिलाया जाता है।
गोबर गैस Dung Gas
गीले गोबर के सड़ने पर ज्वलनशील मीथेन गैस बनती है, जो वायु की उपस्थिति में सुगमता से जलती है। गोबर गैस संयंत्र में गोबर से गैस बनाने के पश्चात् शेष रहे पदार्थ (स्लरी) का उपयोग कार्बनिक खाद के रुप में किया जाता है।
प्रोड्यूसर गैस Producer gas
यह गैस लाल तप्त कोक पर वायु प्रवाहित करके बनाई जाती है। इसमें मुख्यत: कार्बन मोनोऑक्साइड ईधन का काम करती है।
रॉकेट ईंधन Rocket Fuel
रॉकेट में उपयोग किये जाने वाले ईंधन को नोदक कहते हैं। यह नोदक ऑक्सीडाइजर के संयोग से बनता है, जैसे- तरलीय ऑक्सीजन, सभी नोदकों को तीन वगों में रखा जाता है।
1. तरलीय नोदक Liquid Propellant: अल्कोहल, तरलीय हाइड्रोजन, तरलीय अमोनिया, केरोसीन तेल, हाइड्राजीन और बोरोन के हाइड्राइड का उपयोग तरलीय नोदक से अधिक शक्ति प्रदान करता है और इसका नियन्त्रण, प्रवाह को नियंत्रित करके किया जाता है। मिथाइल नाइट्रेड, नाइट्रोमीथेन, हाइड्रोजन पेरोक्साइड आदि भी उपयोगी तरलीय नोदक हैं।

एसीटिलीन अथवा एथीन (C2H2): यह अत्यधिक अभिक्रियाशील गैस है। आर्सीन तथा फॉस्फीन मिली होने के कारण इसकी गंध लहसुन जैसी होती है। इसका उपयोग ईंधन तथा प्रकाश के रूप में, कृत्रिम रबर (निओप्रीन) बनाने में, विषैली गैस ल्यूसाइट बनाने में, जो प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध में प्रयुक्त हुई थी, होता है। इसके अतिरिक्त ऑक्सी-एसिटलीन ज्वाला बनाने में, जो धातुओं को जोड़ने तथा काटने में प्रयुक्त होती है, फलों को पकाने में भी इसका उपयोग होती है।
पेट्रोलियम: पेट्रोलियम एक विशेष गंध युक्त भूरे-काले रंग का गाढ़ा तेल होता है। यह पृथ्वी के भीतर चट्टानों के नीचे पाया जाता है। यह एक प्राकृतिक ईंधन है। प्राकृतिक रूप में इसे कच्चा तेल या अपरिपक्व तेल (Crude Oil) भी कहते हैं। पृथ्वी के नीचे पाये जाने के कारण इसे खनिज तेल (Mineral Oil) भी कहते हैं। अपरिष्कृत पेट्रोलियम का इसी रूप में उपयोग नहीं किया जा सकता है। अत: इसके निरंतर प्रभाजी आसवन द्वारा औद्योगिक उपयोग के विभिन्न प्रभाज प्राप्त किये जाते हैं। यह प्रक्रिया परिष्करण (Refining) कहलाती है। प्रभाजी आसवन संप्राप्त प्रभाज निम्न हैं- ऐस्फाल्ट (डामर) पैराफिन मोम, स्नेहक तेल, ईंधन तेल, डीजल, करोसिन (मिट्टी का तेल), पेट्रोल तथा पेट्रोलियम गैस।
प्राकृतिक गैस: यह मुख्यतः मेथेन (CH4) होती है (95%)। इसमें मेथेन के साथ थोड़ी मात्रा में इथेन और प्रोपेन भी रहती है। प्राकृतिक गैस एक अच्छा ईधन है। यह धुआँ रहित ज्वाला के साथ जलती है, जिससे प्रदूषण नहीं होता। इसके जलने पर कोई विषैली गैस भी नहीं बनती है। CNG – Compressed Natural Gas का प्रयोग वाहनों में होता है।
