नियम 1– कुछ Nouns हमेशा Singular होते है
उदाहरण-
- All my furniture is new.
- Where is my luggage?
- The scenery of Kashmir is worth seeing.
***ध्यान रखें- इनके Nouns पहले न तो a/an का प्रयोग होता है और न ही इनका Plural बनाया जाता है क्योंकि ये सभी Uncountable noun है
नियम 2– कुछ Nouns का स्वरूप Plural होता है लेकिन वे Singular होते है तथा है तथा उनके साथ हमेशा Singular verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है
- Physics is my favorite subject.
- Draughts is a very challenging game.
नियम 3– कुछ Nouns देखने में Singular प्रतीत होते है लेकिन हमेशा Plural होते है
जैसे- Cattle, Poultry, People, Police, Gentry, Peasantry, Electorate आदि
नियम 4– Crowd, Audience, Class, Jury, Family, Government, Public आदि Nouns से यदि एक ईकाई (unit)का बोध हो तो Singular लेकिन यदि इनसे इनके सदस्यों का बोध हो तो Plural माना जाता है
जैसे-
- My family is waiting for me
- The Indian team is playing first.
- The Team Are Looking Quite Fit.
- One of the boys has broken this window
- Any of the tools can be used.
- Each of the students should buy this book.
- Each of the answers is worth 20 Points.
उदाहरण-
- Mathematics is an interesting subject.
- परंतु-His mathematics are weak.(यहाँ तात्पर्य गणितीय गणनाओं से है)
- The Wages Of Sin Is Death.
- The Wages Of The Workers Have Been Raised.
- I Saw A Sheep Grazing In The Field.
- Sheep Are Sold Cheaper Than Goat.
नियम 8– Dozen, Score, Hundred, Thousand का प्रयोग Singular Number के रूप में होता है यदि इनका प्रयोग अंको के बाद किया गया हो लेकिन Dozens of eggs, Hundreds of people कहा जाता है
- I have bought five dozen bananas.
- I have bought dozens of bananas.
जैसे-Singular PluralBrother-in-law Brothers-in-law
Maid servant Maid servants
नियम 10– Man तथा Woman से बने Compound Noun के दोनों Part में Plural Formation होता है
Woman doctor Women doctors
Man servant Men servants
नियम 11– लेकिन Man haters, Woman lover, Man lovers का प्रयोग किया जाता है
