  • 1903 को लार्ड कर्जन ने कलकत्ता के मटकॉफ हॉल में इंपीरियल लाइब्रेरी का उद्घाटन किया। वर्ष 1948 में इस लाइब्रेरी का नाम बदलकर नेशनल लाइब्रेरी कर दिया गया।
  • 1933 को राष्ट्रपति पॉल वान हिंडेनबर्ग ने अडोल्फ हिटलर को जर्मनी का चांसलर बनाया।
  • 1941 को नौवहन के इतिहास की एक बड़ी घटना में सोवियत संघ की एक पनडुब्बी ने जर्मनी का एक पोत डुबा दिया, जिससे उसमें सवार लगभग नौ हजार लोगों की मौत हो गई
  • 1948 को शाम की प्रार्थना के लिए जा रहे राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी की नयी दिल्ली के बिड़ला भवन में हत्या। तभी से इस दिन को ‘शहीद दिवस’ के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
  • 1965 को ब्रिटेन के लोगों ने द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के समय देश के प्रधानमंत्री रहे विंस्टन चर्चिल को अंतिम विदाई दी। चर्चिल एक कुशल कूटनीतिज्ञ और प्रखर वक्ता थे और वह एकमात्र प्रधानमंत्री थे, जिन्हें नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। उन्हें ब्रिटेन की महानतम विभूतियों में गिना जाता है।

  • 2004 को  वैज्ञानिकों ने संवाददाता सम्मेलन में ऐलान किया कि मंगल पर भेजे गए अंतरिक्ष यान ‘अपोर्चुनिटी’ को मंगल ग्रह पर आयरन ऑक्साइड की मौजूदगी के संकेत मिले हैं। इसका सीधा मतलब है कि संभवत: एक समय वहां पानी रहा होगा।
  • 2007 को  एक बड़े अन्तरराष्ट्रीय सौदे में भारत की दिग्गज कंपनी टाटा ने एंग्लो डच स्टील निर्माता कंपनी कोरस ग्रुप को 12 अरब डॉलर से अधिक में ख़रीदा।
  • 2008 को  चेन्नई की एक विशेष अदालत ने स्टाम्प घोटाला मामले के मुख्य आरोपी अब्दुल करीम तेलगी को 10 साल की सज़ा सुनाई।
  • 2009 को  ऑस्ट्रेलिया ओपन के मिक्स्ड डबल मुक़ाबले में सानिया मिर्ज़ा और महेश भूपति की जोड़ी फाइनल में पहुंची।
  • 2009 को  कोका कोला कंपनी ने ऐलान किया कि वह अमेरिका में अपने प्रमुख उत्पाद कोका कोला क्लासिक का नाम बदलकर कोका कोला करने जा रही है। कोका कोला के साथ ‘क्लासिक’ शब्द को 1985 में जोड़ा गया था।
