बहुत समय पहले की बात है, दो अरबी दोस्तों को एक बहुत बड़े खजाने का नक्शा मिला, खजाना किसी रेगिस्तान के बीचो-बीच था।
दोनों दोस्त ने योजना बनाना शुरू की, खजाने तक पहुँचने के लिए बहुत लम्बा समय लगता और रास्ते में भूख-प्यास से मर जाने का भी खतरा था। बहुत विचार करने पर दोनों ने तय किया कि इस योजना में एक और समझदार दोस्त को शामिल किया जाए ताकि वे एक और ऊंट अपने साथ ले जा सकें जिस पर खाने-पीने का ढ़ेर सारा सामान भी आ जाए और खजाना अधिक होने पर वे उसे ऊंट पर ढो भी सकें।
पर सवाल ये उठा कि चुनाव किसका किया जाए? बहुत सोचने के बाद गुरु और बबलू को चुना गया। दोनों हर तरह से बिलकुल एक तरह के थे और कहना मुश्किल था कि दोनों में अधिक बुद्धिमान कौन है? इसलिए एक प्रतियोगिता के जरिये सही व्यक्ति का चुनाव करने का फैसला किया गया।
दोनों दोस्तों ने उन्हें एक निश्चित स्थान पर बुलाया और बोले, “आप लोगों को अपने-अपने ऊंट पर सवार होकर सामने दिख रहे रास्ते पर आगे बढ़ना है। कुछ दूर जाने के बाद ये रास्ता दो अलग-अलग रास्तों में बंट जाएगा- एक सही और एक गलत। जो इंसान सही रास्ते पर जाएगा वही हमारा तीसरा साथी बनेगा और खजाने का एक-तिहाई हिस्सा उसका होगा।”
दोनों ने आगे बढ़ना शुरू किया और उस बिंदु पर पहुँच गए जहाँ से रास्ता बंटा हुआ था। वहां पहुँच कर गुरु ने इधर-उधर देखा, उसे दोनों रास्तों में कोई अंतर समझ नहीं आया और वह जल्दी से बांये तरफ बढ़ गया। जबकि, बबलू बहुत देर तक उन रास्तों की ओर देखता रहा और उन पर आगे बढ़ने के नतीजे के बारे में सोचता रहा।
करीब 1 घंटे बाद बायीं ओर के रास्ते पर धूल उड़ती दिखाई दी।गुरु बड़ी तेजी से उस रास्ते पर वापस आ रहा था। उसे देखते ही बबलू मुस्कुराया और बोला, “गलत रास्ता ?”
“हाँ, शायद!”, गुरु ने जवाब दिया।
दोनों दोस्त छुप कर यह सब देख रहे थे और वे तुरंत उनके सामने आये और बोले, “बधाई हो!
“शुक्रिया!”, बबलू ने फ़ौरन जवाब दिया।
“तुम्हें नहीं, हमने गुरु को चुना है”, दोनों दोस्त एक साथ बोले।
“पर गुरु तो गलत रास्ते पर आगे बढ़ा था… फिर उसे क्यों चुना जा रहा है?”, बबलू गुस्से में बोला।
“क्योंकि उसने ये पता लगा लिया कि गलत रास्ता कौन है और अब वो सही रास्ते पर आगे जा सकता है, जबकि तुमने पूरा वक़्त बस एक जगह बैठ कर यही सोचने में गँवा दिया कि कौन-सा रास्ता सही है और कौन-सा गलत। समझदारी किसी चीज के बारे में ज़रूरत से ज्यादा सोचने में नहीं बल्कि एक समय के बाद उस पर काम करने और तजुर्बे से सीख लेने में है।”, दोस्तों ने अपनी बात पूरी की और खजाने की तरफ चल दिये, बबलू बैठा बैठा वहीं पछताता रहा..!!
