1. वूलर झील
जम्मू एवं कश्मीर राज्य में स्थित भारत की ‘वृहद्तम ताजे जल की झील‘ है। वूलर झील, झेलम नदी पर निर्मित गोखुर झील का उदाहरण है।
2. डल झील
हिमानी निर्मित श्रीनगर (जम्मू व कश्मीर) में ताजे जल की झील है। यह झील 8 किमी. लम्बी तथा 3 किमी. चौड़ी है। कई स्थानों में दलदल होने के कारण यह कम गहरी है।
3. सांभर झील
राजस्थान के जयपुर से 60 किमी. की दूरी पर स्थित भारत का ‘अत:स्थलीय वृहद्तम खारे जल की झोले’ है। भारत के 60% नमक की आपूर्ति करता है। *
4.बेबर झील
राजस्थान के उदयपुर स्थित खारे जल की झील, नामक उत्पादन हेतु प्रसिद्ध है। यह भारत की सबसे बड़ी कृत्रिम झील’ है। 17वीं शताब्दी में उदयपुर के राजा ने इसे निर्मित कराया था
5. लोकटक झील
यह उत्तर पूर्वी राज्य मणिपुर में स्थित एक मीठे पानी की झील है, जिस पर जलविद्युत केन्द्र भी है। यह झील विश्व में ‘तैरती द्वीपीय झोल’ के रूप में प्रसिद्ध है। इस झील में केबुललामजाओ नामक राष्ट्रीय पार्क भी है। इस झील पर तैरते हुए घर को फुन्डी कहते है।
6. चिल्का झील
यह ओडिशा राज्य में स्थित खारे पानी की बृहद्तम लैगून झील हैं, जो झींगा उत्पादन के लिए प्रसिद्ध है।
7. सूरजताल
हिमाचल प्रदेश में बाड़ालाचा दर्रे के निकट स्थित ताजे जल की झील है।
8. तवावोहर झील
मध्य प्रदेश के होशंगाबाद जिले में नर्मदा नदी पर बांध बनाकर इसे निर्मित किया गया।
9. सोंगमो झील
सिक्किम के गंगटोक जिला स्थित ताजे जल की झील है।
10. अष्टमुदी झील
केरल के कोमल जिला स्थित लैगून/कयाल झील जिसकी 8 शाखाएं हैं। रामसर समझौते द्वारा इसे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय महत्व की आर्द्र भूमि घोषित किया गया है।
11. भीमताल झील
यह उत्तराखण्ड के कुमायूँ क्षेत्र में स्थित मोठे जल की झील है, जिसके केंद्र में एक छोटा द्वीप भी है राष्ट्रीय व अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पर्यटन हेतु प्रसिद्ध है।
12. चेम्बरमबक्कम झील
यह तमिलनाडु के चिंगपटु जिले में चेन्नई से 40 किमी. दक्षिण में अवस्थित है। इसी झील से अडयार नदी उद्गमित होती है।
13.कोलेरू झील
आंध्र प्रदेश में कृष्णा-गोदावरी डेल्टा के मध्य स्थित ताजे जल की झील है।
14. पुलिकट झील
आंध्रा तट स्थित खारे जल की लैगून झोल है। यह समुद्र से बालू की भित्ति द्वारा अलग होने से बनी है।
15.लोनार झील
महाराष्ट्र में बुलढाना जिला में स्थित ज्वालामुखी/उल्कापात द्वारा निर्मित झील है।
16. रेणुका झील
हिमाचल प्रदेश के सिरमौर जिला स्थित ताजे जल को झील है। यहाँ पर चिड़ियाघर एवं लायन सफारी स्थित है।
17. रूपकुंड झील
उत्तराखण्ड के मध्य हिमायल स्थित ताजे जल की प्राकृतिक झील है।
18. सास्थम कोट्टा झील
केरल के कोल्लम जिला स्थित वृहद् ताजे जल की झील है।
19. सतलाल या सत्ता झील
यह उत्तराखण्ड के कमायूँ प्रखड में झीलमताल नगर के निकट कई झीलों का समूह है। जो प्रवासी पक्षियों हेतु स्वर्ग है।
20.पंचभद्रा झील
यह राजस्थान के बाड़मेर जिले में स्थित खारे जल की झील है। वर्षा को कमी के कारण इस झील से नमक निकालने के काम में बाधा होती है। प्रदूषण के कारण इसका क्षेत्रफल घट रहा है।
21.वेबनाव झील
केरल तट पर स्थित खारे जल की लैगून झील है। इसी झील में ‘वेलिंगटन द्वीप’ है जहां पर राष्ट्रीय नौकायन प्रतियोगिताएं होती हैं। भारत का सबसे छोटा राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग NH-47A वलिंगटन द्वीप पर ही है
