भारत में हिमालय पर कई खुबसूरत लेकिन परिवहन के लिए खतरनाक दर्रे हैं| ये दर्रे व्यापार, यात्रा, युद्ध और प्रवास में एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं| इनमे से प्रमुख दर्रे इस प्रकार हैं|
आफिल दर्रा (काराकोरम-लद्दाख) Aghil Pass (Karakoram-Ladakh) – काराकोरम श्रेणी में K 2 के उत्तर लगभग 5306 मी. की ऊँचाई पर स्थित यह दर्रा लद्दाख को चीन के झिंजियांग (सिकियांग) प्रान्त से जोड़ता है| शीत ऋतु में यह नवंबर से मई के प्रथम सप्ताह तक बंद रहता है|
बनिहाल दर्रा (जवाहर टनल) Banihal Pass (Jawahar Tunnel) – समुद्र तल से 2832 मीटर (9291 फीट) की ऊँचाई पर पीरपंजाल श्रेणी में स्थित यह दर्रा जम्मू को श्रीनगर से जोड़ता है| शीत ऋतु में यह बर्फ से ढका रहता है| वर्ष पर्यन्त सड़क परिवहन की व्यवस्था करने के उद्देश्य से यहाँ जवाहर टनल (पंडित जवाहर लाल नेहरु के नाम पर) बने गयी, जिसका उद्घाटन 1956 में किया गया| जिसके कारण इस दर्रे का बहुत उपयोग नहीं रह गया|
बार लाप्चा (हिमालय प्रदेश-लेह और लद्दाख) Bara Lacha (Himachal Pradesh with Leh-Ladakh) – जम्मू कश्मीर में समुद्र तल से 4890 मीटर (16,040 फुट) की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है| यह मनाली को लेह से जोड़ने वाले राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग पर स्थित है| शीत ऋतु में नवंबर से मध्य मई तक यह बर्फ से ढके होने के कारण आवागमन के लिये बंद रहता है| चंद्रभागा या चिनाब नदी की सहायक नदी भागा नदी, यहाँ मनाली के पास स्थित सुटी तल से निकलती है| यह जास्कर श्रेणी का सबसे ऊँचा दर्रा है|
बोमाडी ला Bomdi La (4331 m, Arunachal Pradesh) – भूटान के पूरब में अरुणाचल प्रदेश में में स्थित यह दर्रा समुद्र तल से 2217 मीटर (7273 फुट) की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है| यह अरुणाचल प्रदेश को तिब्बत की राजधानी ल्हासा से जोड़ता है| प्रतिकूल मौसम और बर्फ़बारी के कारण यह शीत ऋतु में बंद रहता है|
बुर्जिल दर्रा Burzail Pass (Srinagar with Kishan-Ganga Valley) – समुद्र तल बुरज़िल दर्रा 4,100 मीटर (13,500 फीट) की ऊँचाई पर कश्मीर, गिलगित और श्रीनगर के बीच का एक प्राचीनमार्ग है| यह दर्रा कश्मीर घटी को लद्दाख के देवसाईं मैदानों से जोड़ता है| बर्फ से ढक जाने के कारण यह शीत ऋतु में व्यापार और परिवहन के लिए बंद रहता है| यह भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच नियंत्रण रेखा पर स्थित है|
चांग ला Chang-La (Ladakh with Tibet) – समुद्र तल से 5360 मी. डिफू दर्रा Diphu Pass (Arunachal Pradesh with Mandalay in Myanmar) – यह दर्रा 4587 मीटर (15049 फीट) की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है| अरुणाचल प्रदेश के पूर्वी भाग में स्थित यह दर्रा इस राज्य को मंडाले (म्यांमार) तक का आसान और सबसे छोटा रास्ता (दिहांग की तुलना में) उपलब्ध कराता है| यह भारत और म्यांमार के बीच का एक परंपरागत दर्रा है, जो व्यापार और परिवहन के लिए वर्ष भर खुला रहता है| दिफू दर्रा भारत, चीन और बर्मा की सीमाओं के पास है, पूर्वी असम के लिए इसका एक रणनीतिक महत्त्व भी है|
