हड़प्पा

हड़प्पा रावी नदी के किनारे पंजाब के माँटगोमरी जिले में स्थित है। इसकी खुदाई दयाराम साहनी के नेतृत्व में (माधोस्वरूप वत्स सहायक) 1921 ई. में हुई। यह शहर विभाजित है, पश्चिमी में गढ़ी है और पूर्वी भाग में निचला शहर है। हड़प्पा में छ:-छ: के दो कतारों में धान्य कोठार मिले हैं। अनाजों के दाबने के लिए एक चबूतरा बना था। इसमें जौ एवं गेहूँ के दाने मिले हैं। दो कतारों में 15 मकान मिले हैं। इनकी पहचान श्रमिक आवास के रूप में हुई है। द. क्षेत्र में एक (सेमेट्री) कब्रिस्तान आर-37 है। हड़प्पा से एक मूर्ति धोती पहने प्राप्त हुई है। यहाँ बालू पत्थर की दो मूर्तियां प्राप्त हुई हैं। इनसे शरीर संरचना का ज्ञान मिलता है। एक बरतन पर मछुआरे का चित्र बना मिला है। शंख का बना हुआ एक बैल भी मिला है। यहाँ से बना कांसा का एक्का प्राप्त हुआ है। कांस्य दर्पण भी यहाँ से प्राप्त हुए हैं। सिन्धु सभ्यता की अभिलेखयुक्त मुहरें सर्वाधिक हड़प्पा से ही प्राप्त हुई हैं।

मोहनजोदड़ो

यह सिन्ध के लरकाना जिले में स्थित है। यह सिंधु नदी के किनारे अवस्थित है। इसका अर्थ है-मृतकों का टीला। 1922 ई. में इसकी खुदाई राखालदास बैनर्जी के निर्देशन में करायी गई। यहाँ से एक सभागार (एसेम्बली हाल), पुरोहितों का आवास, महाविद्यालय एवं महास्नानागार के प्रमाण मिले हैं। यहाँ सूती कपड़े का साक्ष्य मिला है। मोहनजोदड़ो में 16 मकानों का बैरक मिला है। एक बरैक को मैके ने दुकान कहा है जबकि पिगॉट महोदय ने इन्हें कुली लाइन कहा है। काँसे की एक नग्न नर्तकी की मूर्ति मिली है। यहीं से एक दाढ़ी वाले साधु की मूर्ति प्राप्त हुई है। पशुपति शिव का साक्ष्य भी यहीं मिला है। यहीं कुम्हार के छ: भट्ठों (चिमनी) के अवशेष मिले हैं। हाथी का कपाल खंड मिला है। यहां गले हुए ताँबे का ढेर मिला है। यहाँ से वाट मिला है, जो सेलखड़ी का बना था। राणाघुडई के निम्न धरातल से घोडे के दांत के अवशेष मिले हैं।

चांहुदड़ो (सिन्ध)

एन.जी. मजुमदार के प्रयास से 1931 में इसकी खोज हुई। 1935 में मैके ने इस कार्य को आगे बढ़ाया। यह स्थल सिंध में मोहनजोदड़ो 130 कि.मी. दक्षिण में स्थित है। यहाँ से मनके बनाने का एक कारखाना प्राप्त हुआ है। उत्तर-हड़प्पा (झूकर एवं झांगर संस्कृति) संस्कृति इस स्थल पर विकसित हुई। इस स्थल पर बिल्ली का पीछा करते हुए कुत्ते का साक्ष्य मिला है। सौंदर्य प्रसाधन में लिपस्टिक का प्रमाण मिला है। चांहुदड़ो एकमात्र ऐसा स्थल है जहाँ से वक्राकार ईंटें मिली हैं।

लोथल

यह गुजरात के अहमदाबाद जिले में पड़ता है। यह भोगवा नदी के किनारे अवस्थित है। 1957 में इसकी खोज रंगनाथ राव ने की। इस स्थल का आकार आयताकार है। लोथल के पूर्वी भाग में गोदीवाड़ा (डॉकयार्ड) का साक्ष्य मिला है। यह 214 मीटर × गहराई 3.3 मीटर का है। लोथल में दुर्ग एवं निचले शहर के बीच विभाजन नहीं है। उत्खननों से लोथल की जो नगर-योजना और अन्य भौतिक वस्तुएँ प्रकाश में आयी हैं, उनसे लोथल एक लघु हड़प्पा या मोहनजोदड़ो नगर प्रतीत होता है। अग्निवेदिका का साक्ष्य लोथल से मिलता है। यहाँ चावल का साक्ष्य मिलता है। फारस की एक मुहर प्राप्त हुई है। यहीं घोड़े की लघु मृणमूर्ति प्राप्त हुई है तथा हाथी दांत का एक स्केल प्राप्त हुआ है। तीन युग्मित समाधि (तीनों जुड़े) प्राप्त हुई है। एक मकान से दरवाजा मुख्य सड़क की ओर खुलने का प्रमाण मिलता है। अनाज पीसने की चक्की का साक्ष्य भी मिलता है। लोथल से प्राप्त एक भांड पर ही चालाक लोमड़ी की कथा अंकित है। यहाँ से ममी की आकृति भी प्राप्त हुई है।

कालीबंगा

इसका अर्थ है काले रंग की चूड़ियाँ। घग्गर नदी के तट पर यह राजस्थान के गंगानगर जिले में स्थित है। दुर्गक्षेत्र का आकार वर्गाकार है। इस क्षेत्र के उत्खननकर्ता अमलानन्द घोष (1953) और बी.के. थापर (1960) हैं। पूर्व-हड़प्पा सभ्यता का यहाँ से साक्ष्य भी मिलता है। यहाँ ईंट के चबूतरे पर सात हवन कुड का साक्ष्य मिलता है। कालीबंगा में कच्ची ईंटों का प्रयोग हुआ है। यहाँ जुते हुए खेत का साक्ष्य मिला है। कालीबंगा में अधिक दूरी पर सरसों की फसल बोयी जाती थी तथा कम दूरी पर चना बोया जाता था। यहाँ अलंकृत ईंटों का साक्ष्य मिला है। कालीबंगा में लकड़ी के पाइप का प्रमाण मिला है। कालीबंगा में दोनों खंड दुगों से घिरे थे। यहाँ से प्राप्त बेलनाकार मुहरें मेसोपोटामिया से प्राप्त मुहरों के समरूप थीं।

बनवाली

यह हरियाणा के हिसार जिले में स्थित है। इसकी खोज 1973 ई. में आर.एस. बिष्ट द्वारा की गई। यहाँ से दो सांस्कृतिक अवस्थाएँ प्राप्त हुई हैं। हड़प्पा पूर्व और हड़प्पाकालीन। यहाँ अच्छे किस्म का जौ प्राप्त हुआ है। बनवाली से ताँबे का वाणाग्र प्राप्त हुआ है। यहाँ से हल की आकृति का खिलौना प्राप्त हुआ है। यहाँ नाली पद्धति का अभाव है। यहाँ से ताँबे की कुल्हाड़ी प्राप्त हुई है। बनवाली की नगर-योजना शतरंज के बिसात या जाल के आकार की बनायी गयी थी। सड़कें न तो सीधी मिलती हैं और न एक-दूसरे को समकोण पर काटती हैं। यहाँ से पत्थर एवं मिट्टी के मकानों के साक्ष्य मिलते हैं। यहाँ से सड़कों पर बैलगाड़ियों के पहियों के निशान मिले हैं।

रोपड़

सतलुज नदी के किनारे यह पंजाब में स्थित है। 1953-54 में यहाँ खुदाई यज्ञदत शर्मा  के अन्तर्गत कराई गई। यहाँ से हड़प्पा-पूर्व और हड़प्पाकालीन अवशेष प्राप्त होता है। यहाँ से ताँबे की कुल्हाड़ी प्राप्त हुई है। यहाँ के एक कब्रगाह में आदमी के साथ कुत्ते को दफनाए जाने का भी साक्ष्य मिला है। रोपड़ से संस्कृति के पाँच स्तर प्राप्त हुए हैं जो इस प्रकार हैं- हड़प्पा, चित्रित धूसर मृदभांड, उत्तरी काले पॉलिस वाले, कुषाण, गुप्त और मध्यकालीन मृदभांड।

सुरकोटड़ा

यह गुजरात के कच्छ प्रदेश में स्थित है। उत्खनन का काम जगपति जोशी के अधीन 1964 में किया गया। यहाँ से घोड़े की अस्थियाँ प्राप्त हुई हैं। साथ ही यहाँ एक अनोखे कब्रगाह का साक्ष्य मिला है।

आलमगीरपुर

हिण्डन नदी के किनारे यह पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश के मेरठ जिले में स्थित है। इसकी खुदाई यज्ञदत्त शमा ने 1958 में कराई। यह हड़प्पा सभ्यता के अन्तिम चरण को रेखांकित करता है।

रंगपुर

यह गुजरात के काठियावाड़ जिले में स्थित है। यह मादर नदी के समीप है। इसकी खुदाई 1953-54 में रंगनाथ राव के अन्तर्गत करायी गई। यहाँ से उत्तर हड़प्पा संस्कृति का साक्ष्य मिलता है। यहाँ धान की भूसी का साक्ष्य मिला है। यहाँ कच्ची ईंटों का दुर्ग भी मिला है।

अलीमुराद

यह सिंध प्रांत में स्थित है। यहाँ बैल की लघु मृण्मूर्ति मिली है। यहाँ से भी कांसे की कुल्हाड़ी प्राप्त हुई है।

सुत्कोगेडोर

यह स्थल बलूचिस्तान में दाश्क नदी के किनारे स्थित है। इसकी खुदाई 1927 में औरेल स्टाइन के अधीन की गई। यहाँ से परिपक्व हड़प्पा काल का साक्ष्य मिला है। यहाँ से मनुष्य की अस्थि, राख से भरा बर्तन, ताँबे की कुल्हाड़ी और मिट्टी से बनी चूड़ियाँ प्राप्त हुई हैं।

अलाहदिनों

सिंधु नदी और अरब सागर के संगम से 16 कि.मी. उत्तर पूर्व में स्थित है। इसकी खुदाई फेयर सर्विस ने करायी।

कोटदीजी

यह मोहनजोदडो से 50 कि.मी. पूर्व में स्थित है। इसकी खुदाई (1955-57) में एफ.ए. खान ने कराई। इसके अलावा अन्य स्थलों के बारे में भी महत्त्वपूर्ण तथ्य हैं। आमरी में बारहसींगा का नमूना मिला है। सर्वप्रथम सिंधु सभ्यता के लोगों ने ही चाँदी का उपयोग किया। धौलावीरा भारत में स्थित सबसे बड़ा हडप्पा स्थल है। दूसरा बड़ा स्थल राखीगढ़ी है। सम्पूर्ण सिंधु सभ्यता के स्थलों में क्षेत्रफल की दृष्टि से धौलावीरा का स्थान चौथा है।

धौलावीरा

यह स्थल गुजरात के कच्छ जिले के मचाऊ तालुका में मानसर एवं मानहर नदियों के मध्य अवस्थित हैं। इसकी खोज जगपति जोशी ने 1967-68 में की परन्तु इसका विस्तृत उत्खनन रवीन्द्र सिह विष्ट के द्वारा किया गया। यह ऐसा प्रथम नगर है जो तीन भागों में विभाजित था- दुर्गभाग, मध्यम नगर तथा निचला नगर। यहाँ से 16 विभिन्न आकार-प्रकार के जलाशय मिले हैं, जो एक अनूठी जल संग्रहण व्यवस्था का चित्र प्रस्तुत करते हैं। धौलावीरा नगर के दुर्ग भाग एंव मध्यम भाग के मध्य एक भव्य इमारत के अवशेष, चारों ओर दर्शकों को बैठने के लिए बनी हुई सीढ़ियों को, इंगित करते हैं। धौलावीरा से दस बड़े अक्षरों में लिखा एक सूचना पट्ट का प्रमाण मिला है।

कुणाल

हाल में यह स्थल प्रकाश में आया है। यह हरियाणा में स्थित है। यह एक मात्र ऐसा स्थल है, जहाँ से चाँदी के दो मुकुट मिले हैं।

राखीगढ़ी

हरियाणा के हिसार जिले में सरस्वती तथा दुहद्वती नदियों के शुष्क क्षेत्र में राखीगढ़ी, सिन्धु सभ्यता का भारतीय क्षेत्र में धौलावीरा के बाद, दूसरा विशालकाय नगर है। इसका उत्खनन व्यापक पैमाने पर 1997-99 के दौरान अमरेन्द्र नाथ के द्वारा किया गया। राखीगढ़ी से प्राक हड़प्पा एंव परिपक्व हड़प्पा युग इन दोनों कालों के प्रमाण मिले हैं।
